Default 100w or 160w

With only a few weeks before my hatchlings could be due to make their appearance into the world, I am beginning to think about setting up their enclosure. I am planning on getting an Arcadia D3 UV Reptile Basking Lamp.

Does it make much difference if I get 160w or 100w? The 100w is slightly more expensive, but didn't want something too powerful for the hatchlings and over heat them...

What would people recommend?

I cant comment on hatchlings straight from egg but I have a 100w and it sends out a wapping amount of heat over a really large area. (Arcadia will be able to be more precise). I would say 100W is plenty otherwise you may have a lamp so high up it will be ineffective re the value of UVA/B an less coverage if that makes sense. there are 80w also but funnily enough because they are more effective I find them hotter than the old 100W Arcadia ! Clear as mud ! someone else will post too hopefully for views CB

I used an 80w for Jerry's first year but now use a 100w. This gives good coverage at the height required for optimum temps. If I used a 160w, I reckon I'd be struggling to keep temps down.
Obviously, your ambient temps will have a bearing on which lamp you choose but I think 100w would cope with most situations.

I think 100w is plenty for a hatchlings table. I have stopped using Arcadia after being very disappointed when my bulb's have blown and I have tried to unscrew them they have left the screw part of the bulb in the bulb holder I have had to throw away 3 or 4 heat lamps, which are not cheap

So I have gone back to Megaray.

Thanks everyone. I will look at the 80 or 100w for the hatchlings then. I'll probably try Arcadia first if I have similar issues I will give the megaray a go.
