160W Arcadia D3 Basking Lamp
Hi I have just swapped my existing Sun Glo bulbfor the above as I have seen several of you folks raving about them.
I have a concern that it is no way near as bright as my fromer sun glo and the heat out put seems very low. I dropped the height of the bulb to 20 CM and was only getting just over 32c maersured by infa red therm and exo terra probe therm. The recommended min height is 30 Cm. My Sun Glo threw out a lot more heat. I called the store who told me that the bulbs take 100Hours to bed in and that I need to give it that long before they would look into it. Can any of you confirm if this sounds right or do you think my bulb is faulty. I cant see any mention of this 100 Hours in the instructions. Thanks |

This is the only pitfall to the Arcadia D3's, they seem to not throw out as much heat as other brands. Don't lower the bulb below the 30cm mark. You will have to add another heat source. A halogen lamp would be ideal.

How big is your enclosure and what are the room temps? I get very hot temps with my arcadia 160w, my room is usually 20 - 22C.

Mine is 19.5 inches high at the moment and my temps are 35.3C. My room temp is 23.5C.
I think to be honest I could really do with the 100w instead for summer! |

Hi all,
Just a few points, firstly a M.V lamp takes at least 100hours to burn in, unlike most we use a phosphor coast on the front surface of the lamps globe which like flouro tubes needs to be energised before you get the full output and lamp brightness. These lamps are all hand made, and so there will be differences between lamps. After burn in you will have a lamp that has upper UV quantities over a wider area than other brands. We purposefully designed it with less heat as we felt that some lamps simply got too hot, and with the limitations of this now quite old tech the animals have to bask right under the hottest part to get any use out of the lamp, so we made them safer. Any questions welcome John

32c at 8 inches.. are you sure it's a 160w and not a 100w? Mine is much like Sophie's about 19-20 inches high and about 35c, sometimes a bit hotter. As for the height/UVB spread, it will be a bit less if the bulb is higher obviously but when they are outdoors they hang about in the shade anyway
