Halogens are very nice, there is something about that light and heat that they love.
I think the only thing with halogens to bear in mind, is IMO - not to have them angled in any way. They are I think, much brighter with their light than normal spot bulbs. I changed mine earlier this year for a ceramic (I had ran out of halogens anyway and had not had them on since last winter). I wasnt comfortable with the glare at Lily's eyes - granted, they can easily move and turn and not face it, but it bothered me each time he did face into it when basking. So I probably would say yes, halogens are really great bulbs but need to be positioned in much the same way as a combined bulb (albeit without the height restriction of a combined) xx
