CB these are just my thoughts but I think a dimming thermostat will still be really useful for controlling a heat lamp. The Arcadia D3 is probably the best of the combined lamps in terms of reliability and longer life. You can't use a dimming thermostat with a combined bulb and have to adjust the height of the bulb instead. In confined spaces a combined bulb is not a good idea because of the heat build-up but the 80 watt might be an exception to that since it produces little heat anyway.
