I have quite a few different types including one with white flowers which I think got choked out by the larger purple one next to it. All of the types I have keep their leaves all year round. Most of them grow in a clump but one type, maybe the one that grows wild in the UK, it is one that spreads. I have them in their enclosure outside and although they eat them they don't seem to do it to the extent where it gets wiped out.

EDIT> I'm not sure how many types there are, some may be hybrids but when I was at Alnwick Castle Gardens once they had campanula that was about 4ft high
