I agree a lot of sites rely on places like Photobucket to attache picture files to the site. What they should have is another site based option which will even work on their mobile version letting you load files from your gallery.
What you need to do is switch to the mobile version of the forum. This is available and just needs admin to install.
Nowadays on your user CP you should have the option to enable notifications.
