If you travel a distance to collect a tortoise you could use a tupperware type box with holes in the lid and some soil in it.
My other suggestion is that you don't want the tortoise to be too warm. Keep the box out of direct sunlight and ideally keep it cool on the journey. When I say cool I mean maybe between 10 and 15C.
