Mine are outside 24/7, and I don't close the doors either - if they want to sleep outside they can. but I did build a framed net over the whole enclosure...

Which brings me to a similar question!!
We're about to move house to somewhere with a lot more land (and quite rural), so I can open up to give the tortoises a massive enclosure - but I won't be able to stick a lid on it (well, not easily).
So would this be a problem, they're probably just under 20cm in length now
