Some people do have multi compost but its just that , made up of multiple stuff like the dregs from a soil tip so unless you can pick the horrid bits out (yes glass) its not good. Normal Garden centre top soil is best, coco coir is ok too but without the added bits - think drainage, weight, what additives are in it, damp retention , micro organism, fungal matter, air circulation. Then think about in the wild if the tortoise inadvertently eats the soil - he won't implode or blow up or be killed by fungus or chemicals usually. Dry dusty substrate of any kind can cause ill health also. Good luck , its all the joy of Tortoise husbandry ! get it right and he should live a life time and bring a life of joy CB
