No Sandy, you have read the post correctly. Huge quantities of live Turtles are being shipped out of the USA to China. These include especially the very large breeding adults of Softshell species, of which the USA boasts three species, and many thousands of hard shelled Turtles, of various species.
When they refer to local consumption, there is a relativley small domestic market from Cajun and Chinese nationals who also eat Turtles, and Tortoises, inside the USA.
