I use 100w basking lamps and allow the thermostats to dim them to the correct temperature. I wouldn't use a 100w lamp in a plastic holder though, I think they are rated only up to 100w.
If it was me, I'd have 100w basking lamp on a dimming thermostat for the day and a CHE on at night on a pulse thermostat.
