Thanks for the comments. I will put a few more photos on later. Borrowed a dremmel from a neighbour with a rotating emery board. The points disappeared in seconds. No sign of bleeding and now nice and round. Took the same (smaller) point off the other one to make sure that I don't have a repeat performance with the other animal.
