I hit a batten slightly into the ground and secured it to the cold frame base and simply screwed the lamp on using the bracket.
No stat in there, I don't really worry about the temperature in there as the tortoises can come and go as they wish. If the basking area is too worm they either move to the cooler side or leave the cold frame. The lamp is on a timer and is really only used early spring and late summer.
