Grow them for a couple of years in a good soil and compare to the wild ones. Comparing a few months old plants to ones that has been growing in wild for years makes no sense.

Top soil is a good substrate for a tort table. As for growing food also not bad idea but if u sow seeds be sure your torts will eat all sprouts immediately. Better idea to plant already grown weeds...

No, it grows in topsoil. It is quite unusual how the plant grows- there is an almost dry, wooden transversal branch and from it growing out the plants you can see on the picture.
