Yes if on a thermostat, as soon as the table temp dropped to what the stat is set, it will come on. If not on a stat it would spark in straight away switched on.

That is the problem rheostat's would be useful here, but they are not available already made to use, the habistat an d like thermostat's are everywhere. A Rheostat here, could be made up by ordering...
