Courier Transport
Is it safe to courier Tortoises?
I'd never heard of this before and I'm a bit iffy about it. |
Personally if comes with good credentials I think I would trust to give it a go if I really really really desperately needed to. But must come with some knowledge of their 'luggage' and its individual care. Is quite dependent on who it is and what they can offer - make sure check it out is probably the message if need to use one. Make sure they don't disappear with your prize possession too. Is there a registrar for them? CB

I don't know, it was suggested to me by a forum user as I've mentioned possibly re-homing my tort George.
It was a kind offer and I'm still considering it, but I really don't know if I like the idea of using a courier to send him. |
Have used a few but found a great one with regular trips, they were able to move some Egyptians for me directly door to door with no other drops, which was great considering how sensitive they are
Whoever you use try and get a direct / same day one I do like to do it myself but sometimes just can't get the time |

I used 888 reptiles last year and their service was excellent - same day delivery and a reasonable cost. It's not ideal using a courier but I needed to and the ones I used once before and would have recommended were no longer offering the service. I phoned around before selecting 888 and dealt with a lady named Sally who I would now recommend.
People are willing to travel a certain distance to collect a tortoise but have a cut-off point. I've happily driven 3 hours but more than that and it becomes expensive and often logistically difficult. |
I heard good things about Animal Courier but don't have personal experience of them.
