Outside enclosure plants
Im looking to revamp the tortoises outside enclosure and I want to get rid of some of the grass and plant more shrubs. I have a hibiscus, lemon balm and rosemary plants that have matured nicely.
I'm looking to lay some more small stones as in gravel or slate type thing and would like to plant some more shrubs or plants but I want it to have a Mediterranean look. I wondered if anyone has any idea of what I could plant. All ideas gratefully received. |

Hardy Plumbago. Yukka. If you use slate make sure its at least an inch thick. A small slab would work. |
I have oregano, lavender, festucha grass which is blue and very pretty, and laviteria....not sure about the spelling!

I've put in holly hock ( they love the flowers) sea holly, echinacea, mallow, hardy geraniums, thyme.

Thanks everyone for your help.
I've bought Thyme 'silver queen' Thyme lemon Thyme common Fuchsia 'lady Boothby' Geranium ''Dreamland' Geranium 'macrorrhizum Bevans' Lavendula 'Vera' Lavender 'Augustiflolia' Cistus 'dansereaui Decumben' Festuca 'Glauca Azurit' Carex 'ice Dance' I also have a hibiscus to plant so I'm going to be busy next week if the weathers good to me. |
That sounds great, would love to see pictures when they're planted. I have lots to plant there, just got to get 5 minutes to plant them!

Yes definitely.
Their enclosures are not that big. At the moment I have a grass section and the border with with a few plants for shade. It isn't the most imaginative enclosure, so I thought if I take some of the grass away and add some more shrubs and plants it will add interest and they'll probably walk around plants rather than in a straight line. Hopefully making it seem bigger to them! Hopefully it will look ok when I'm finished. |
