Excellent species which arguably one of the most beautiful Turtle species in the World. There is a really good article on Husbandry in the Feb issue of Practical Reptile Keeping. Written by a UK hooby breeder, Dr Mark Webb, I think it provides pretty much everything you need to know about keeping this species in captivity.
Good luck with the project, and hope to see pic's in the future of a successful captive set up?:D

yes thats what got me interested, since i read that i couldnt stop thinking about them so have been gathering as much info as possible but cant seem to find many pictures of set ups about. i love the idea of creating water/land areas. thanks

I am not sure that Mark posts on this Forum. However, he certainly posts on RFUK. Suggest that you pm him for detailed husbandry.
I also have written a care guide on the species, and if you PM with an email address I am happy to forward the article to you.

thank you, will pm you in a sec. i joined a good site today which has an area dedicated to this type not sure if i can mention it though. it seems as if most keepers of this species are in america. still have a few things to research as not too clear in my head about them. good news the local rep shop near me has an adult male which iam going to see at the weekend. he was sold to them after becoming unwanted, so getting excited

well have had woody a week now and he is settling in ok, hes started to eat mealworms and fruit but not too keen on his greens. he is not shy at all and sits on top of his hide when hes not soaking in his pool.

I keep having another look at Woody, his shell reminds me of Aztec art! Do the markings continue on his plastron too?

Hi Dolittle

I am thinking about getting a painted wood turtle (after reading the article in PR Keeping too!). Just wondering how you're getting on with Woody. Would love to see more pics; especially of your set up.

Thanks
SeeShell
