Tortoise prolapse

Got up this morning to feed the tortes and found poor Terri has had a prolapse. Ive bathed her cleaned the area, added sugar and sealed it up, got an appointment at a vets in Morpeth as my local vets said they would do work from a book  no thanks take her to someone that knows what she is doing.

So 3pm appointment in Morpeth it is then.

Good luck Daryn. I hope Terri will have a quick recovery - let us know how she is.

Well just got back, they are keeping Terri in and operating tonight. They just didnt want to do the repair they wanted to know the cause as well, she is having x-ray, scan to see if she is gravid, worm count plus the correctional op.

First time Ive ever been to a vets before and I was shocked at the estimated bill twice as much as I thought it would be GULP, between £400 and £500. But these guys have put there time in university etc so deserve it but it still doesnt help ouch

Well just had a call from the vet, Terri has had her operation and all is looking well, it seems its possible that an infection has been partly to blame as nothing showed up in the x-rays or scans but she needs injected antibiotics on top of the op.

Here is a thing though, the cost.

The vet said that he had over quoted and I suppose they have to really so people know what to expect BUT he said it just goes to show how much I think of the tortoise to sign and give them the permission to charge such a high price £400/£500

The guy was totally honest and told me he couldnt even invent the work for that sort of price as everything went really well and fast.

I cant thank him enough because the final price is £160 plus medication which he asked me if I would be able to do myself which I have agreed to do so as it will save me the long drive.

Not many people in this world honest like that, he could have easily got £500 out of me, Im really thrilled to bits and feel like Ive won the lottery TBH.

If they are not already added to this forum they deserve to be.

The vet from the very start knew what he was doing, he was very knowledgeable and spent good time with me answering my questions and giving me really good feedback.

Im sure the vet was called Sam Prescott but Ill verify that tomorrow he is an expert in exotic animals.

Oh poor Terri. That does sound a lot of money to me too but I suppose an operation would be pricey. At least your vet seems to know what he is doing and is taking good care of her.

We must have posted at the same time, look at what the bill actually was i cant thank them enough

Just saw your next post! That's much better! Sounds like an excellent vet. I'm pleased to hear Terri is doing well too.

I'm a bit slow with my typing! You will know where to go in future anyway.

Thank you really happy with the outcome
