2017 Tortoise Enclosure
 

Well work is under way for my tortoise Area. I made.a temporary outdoor enclosure last year which I have demolished. I'm removing a hedge and putting up fencing. I plan to have a tortoise shed with outdoor paddock with access. I've seen this what do you guys think? I'm looking for something I can insulate but summer let as much light in. I'm interested to see your setups for inspiration.

That looks impressive! Would you cut holes in the floor to allow access to the soil? Electricity is useful - do you plan to install it?

If you had left the floor out and set the shed on bricks, your tortoises could hibernate in the soil through the Winter:0)
You could cover the glass through the Winter to stop light getting in.

Ooooo that's splendid, agree with the other, access to the soil would be good and some electrics , then they could hibernate in there.

If you decide to get this shed it will be great as it will warm up easy with all that glass and a nice black felt roof the only thing I would probably do in the summer is to blank out a few windows or it might get to hot.
With the bottom ones they are ideal to make pop holes to go out.
As for insulation sheets of kingspan or another simular product will be the Way to go then cover them with plywood and I would probably get a piece of linoleum for the floor unless you build it on blocks and have a soil floor.

These sheds work well as I have something similar for my Burmese but I have a solid floor as they don't winter in it and also being next to fields I could foresee with a soil floor there might be a rat problem.

Thank you all. I've took the plunge and ordered it. I will Install electrics and get it insulated. It will be some time before the torts are in this. But 1 step closer.

that's fantastic ! don't block light permanently though as looks fit for purpose - I just add old canvass around my greenhouse and shed on the inside like a curtain and that keeps sun off for hibernation. I have a tortoise flap which I have plastic sheeting on cut into strips which tends to keep flies out but main thing is when the rain bounces off the groud it doesn't go back into the cut out bit and make the floor wet. CB

Looks fantastic! I've been looking at something similar for my Sulcata as I'm desperate for more space for him. Where did you find this shed? Not seen them with windows at the bottom like this.

My initial intention was to leave the bottom off so he could graze on the grass, dig etc. but I'm worried the ground temp will be too cold even with heaters/lamps etc. Maybe a combination with small grazing area?

I was just about to start a similar thread so will watch this thread with great interest!
