Well I know med torts dont swim, they drown.
I have seen a leopard in water, not sure if it were swimming or just walking through water.

Reds and Yellows will happily swim since they'd die in their natural habitat if they couldn't. Whilst they don't exactly make a good job of it, most tortoises will have a crack if the worst should happen but like Sandy says Meds don't often fair too well....

mine swim

sandy 17-07-2006 09:33 PM

It all depend on what is meant by swimming.

aprillinda 17-07-2006 09:37 PM

good point

the film clip i watched was actually an underwater view of the aldabra tort really swimimng in quite deep water which actually appeared to be the sea or a lagoon it also appeared that the tort was moving its limbs in an intended way not just bobbing along but as the clip was very short one never knows

Well in a book i recently read about the galapogas torotises the genral therory seems to be that they got to the different islnds by swimming or floating in some manner.

I remember reading on an american forum that some one had a group of horsfields and they brought a new one and said the new one does not swim is there something wrong with it as it just sinks.
