Tortoise related injuries

This is a thread to see who has injured themselves in the line of looking after your tortoises.
Mine occurred a couple of days ago when I had ordered loads of different seeds and mixed them in a tub to spread in tort pens but literally fell flat at the first hurdle.
I was just stepping into the pen and caught my foot on the timber edge and down I went put my hand out to save myself and ouch one dislocated pinky finger or so I thought.
Well to cut it short I went to A+E today as it has popped out twice since I did it to find out it was broken.:lol::lol::lol:

Oh ouch! Poor G! But the tortoises appreciate your efforts though

Oh poor you Gordon, that must be very painful ! Is it all bandaged up, arm in a sling , complete bed rest, tea in bed, waited on hand foot and finger :lol:

To answer your question, yes I have nearly injured myself in the line of tortoise duty, stupidly trying to carry a table of top soil along the landing and down the stairs by myself  and nearly breaking my back in the process, or flying arse over t#* tripping over a tortoise table or tortoise or edge of outdoor enclosure. And recently stung picking dead nettle, an actual stinging nettle was lurking in the middle of it.

Ouch so sorry to hear that. Make sure you take your analgesia regularly, bone pain is not nice - it nags.

Yes, I pulled my back picking up a bag of pea shingle. Fortunately short lived.

They did want me to put it up in a sling
My answer to that was a polite no.

You might be grateful for a sling! When it throbs and you don't know what to do with it, you will find it helps. Don't be too brave, just all takes longer to recover if you don't look after yourself. Don't under estimate a pinky finger.

Ouch, G!!
Oh I think a sling would be great, especially when people ask what you've done and you have to tell them you've broken your pinky! ;-)

Has it swollen? I bet it'll resemble my chipolata toes I had last year following my op! A little sausage finger! ;-)
Seriously though, hope it heals quickly.

I only discovered recently that bittercress seed pods explode! So one got me in the eye as I bent over the weed patch to pick a nice selection for the torts' breakfast. Now I go out prepared with goggles on.....ok, maybe not but I have considered it!
Other than that, changing the topsoil in the tables and lugging bags of fresh topsoil about has irritated an old prolapsed disc injury, but anything for my torts.

Exactly Emma that's why I didn't want a sling I felt a bit of a fool going to A+E as it was yet alone having to tell people I have a sore pinky.

What have they done? Strapped it to the next finger?

No I have a little plastic thing on it, it looks like a finger from a glove with the nail bit missing and it's solid.
