Musk Turtle Problem

I keep 2 musk turtles in my tank and have noticed over the past 2 weeks or so that a considerable amount of algae is growing on their shells! The algae grows prolifically in the tank despite regular water changes every 1 and a half weeks.
Is it a bad sign that it's growing on them? What could i do to prevent further growth of algae on their shells?

Thank-you so much,
Natalie

In nature, the Carapace of these turtles becomes an "algae garden", it provides camouflage, attracts prey items such as molluscs other aquatic inverts and even small fish. Therefore, it is no problem to the turtle and often enhances the confidence of the animal. They think no one can see them perhaps?:)

Algae can also grow more if your tank is near too much light, like facing a window etc
