Outdoor enclosure now open!!

Just putting the finishing touches to our outdoor enclosure for our two Hermann's. Still need to add a cold frame basking area, although in this heat think it can wait a while (sorry the photos have come out so huge!!)

A great enclosure, but it needs far more plant cover, especially in the heat we have at the moment:0)
I would also move the basket housing further away from the edges, as your tortoise can turn sideways and scramble up it.
I had this with a female who was gravid the other week, there was a gap of around 3inchs between the shed and a wall. She got herself stuck, as she had turned sideways trying to go along the gap.

Looking good the only thing I would say is if your not putting a cover over it you might want to put some timber over the corners especially the one where the gravel is, it won't take much for them both to be in the corner at the same time and one get on top of the other and it will be out.
Never underestimate their ability to climb.:)

Thanks for the comments. We are looking to add additional shelter. Not sure if it will be more plants, basket, flowerpots or what.

I am looking to make a cover for it. TBH I was thinking more about waterproofing than stopping them climbing out. That hadn't occurred to me, so thatnks for that

Agree, it's a great start, a brilliant area, may I also add an idea or two, I would suggest and water tight wooden box with a door so they can come and go as they please, this will also provide shade. And I think there's plenty of room there for a couple of nice big woody shrubs , like lavender and Rosemary, they love hiding under these, for shade.

lovely set up and photos . the only thing I can add is a lovely bamboo cover for top shade. maybe on the angles as Gordon said about climbing out - it filters the light and rain so everything doesn't dry up including torts ! looks like a beach café also CB

Nice enclosure, I'm sure they will love it. Can I ask what plants you have? I'd like to get some for my enclosures.
