Redfoot hatchling
Hi all.
Had quite a shock this morning. Out of a clutch of 7 eggs this last egg is fertile. The other 6 all turned out to be duds. This female laid 3 clutches this year of 6 ,7 and 7. Out of each clutch I only got 1 hatchling. It looks like another very dark coloured neonate. The mother is extremely dark. http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/...pszzcx7djk.jpg |
Oh so cute. Congratulations.
What an amazing photograph. The shell looks like polystyrene. What is all the other white stuff? Hope all goes well, keep us updated. |
Thanks,. Soon as I see the hatchlings pip the egg I move them to a seperate box within the incubator, this assures they don't ingest any vermiculite, the white stuff is moist paper towel, this keeps them very humid. I scrunched the towel up so the egg doesn't roll around as he breaks free. When he's out I'll put a fresh piece of paper towel down flat so he can't ingest that. He will stop in the incubator until the eggsack is absorbed. I'll put a fresh weed leaf in every day because sometimes they start feeding before the eggsack is fully absorbed.

What a wonderful surprise. Even one fertile egg out of a large clutch makes them worth incubating.
Congratulations and welcome to the world, little one. :-) |
Congratulations, what a cute little chap.

Simply adorable!!

This morning view. Looks like he's going to sit there and absorb some yolk up. Put him on some flat tissue now as I'm going out today and he my exit whilst I'm out.
