spotted terrapin/turtle

does any one know where I can get a pair of clemmys guttata please !

Geomyda 06-01-2011 07:53 AM

La Ferme tropicale in Paris is advertising a seemingly adult pair recently.
CB hatchlings are offerred from time to time, by breeders in the UK but rarely as sexed pairs.

As Geomyda has said, rare as rocking horse **** in the UK.
La Ferme are asking 395 Euros per animal, if you are prepared to travel to Europe, you will find privately owned specimens for sale here

Type Clemmys Guttata in the search field.

Lovely, lovely personable little turtles, well worth searching out.

clemmys guttata

just checked that site, mind blowing!!lots of CB stuff, but can you bring them back to the uk?

Kirkie 06-01-2011 03:45 PM

Yes, you can. But I've never done it. :) For non CITES species it should be a simple note from the seller that is shown at Uk customs, I'd assume. Geomyda will know, I'm sure.

Actually Dave, in either case, providing the animals are genuinely captive bred, the parent stock, has the necessary CITES licences. Then there is no problem in transporting the animals anywhere within the EEC, including of course the UK. If you remember in the last couple of years running the CITES team have given really excellent presentations at the "Just Me and My Tortoise" group in Kent. They also had a stand at last years Kempton Park Reptile show. I would commend anyone considering bringing CB reptiles back from Europe should attend these presentations and if they have queries and questions they can call up the Cites Team at Heathrow, whom have some really helpful staff.
Redfoot man, the organised trips to Hamm three times a year are bringing many hundreds if not thousands of Captive bred Reptiles back into the UK from these huge international shows held in Germany.
