Any Manouria Emys Emys Keepers Here?
 

Hi

I was wondering if anyone on here kept Manouria Emys Emys at all. I am quite interested in them and was after any first hand experience of keeping them in the UK.

From what I have read they are one of the better large species for life in the UK. But I cannot find many instances of them being kept in the UK and all the information I read seems a bit basic.

I take it that means there are keepers of burmese tortoises active on here? I'm quite keen to make contact with keepers of them (as well as some of the other less common species)

I never noticed those before!! :oops::roll:

I have four Burmese who are coming up for 17 years of age and they are great! They are large of course and although they are easier to keep in the British climate they don't hibernate and need large indoor accommodation in the winter.

Great I was hoping to make contact with a keeper of them. I don't suppose you have any pictures of yours and your setups do you?

I'm keen on them as a species but wanted to get as much information on them as I could. How do you keep them in the winter? Heated shed like many leopard keepers do? I have spoken to a zoo worker who said as long as there was no frost on the ground they were ok to go out as long as they had a warm area afterwards.

How do you manage the humidity?

Would a vivarium be suitable for a hatchling at all? Am I correct in thinking about 19 inches fully grown is about right?

Sorry I have so many questions about them! I would be grateful for any advice you can give on them.
