Idiots!!!

just had a women contact me after one of my hermans hatchlings, i told her the price and explained theyd not be ready to leave for a while yet, she then proceeded to offer me a lot less than the price I told her, so I politely declined her offer.

she then sent me links to ads off gumtree for poor quality imported horsfields obviously showing me how much cheaper she can find a tortoise ??

so i replied politely explaining mine are English bred Hermans off healthy wormed parents and advising her to make sure she takes her new tortoise to a vet to be wormed as imported tortoises carry all sorts of parasites.

I do hate to use the block button but I made an exception this time as I hate idiots more

you are not alone on this one!
when i advertise my hatchlings for sale i specify i will not reply to texts,i think it is better to actually talk to a prospective buyer,it gives you more of a feel as to weather they are genuine.you still get the text messages asking what sort of tortoise it is,the sex and whats your best price.
funny thing is,all that information is in the ad.:-(

thing is she will probably be a tortoise owner a short time till she moves on to the next poor breed of animal.

best of all she contacted me I wasn't actually advertising.

ive had calls at near midnight when ive advertised you can imagine the sort of reply they get at that time of night.

I have no time for idiots or morons. Like you I don't like to block people unnecessarily, but I can't be doing with stupid people. x

I know where you are coming from unless i can talk to somebody on the end of a phone i don't bother and some of the reasons people give you for wanting one sometimes beggars belief, no i wont sell you one for little johnys birthday:-x:-x:-x

I had mine for my birthday. Pets for birthdays and Christmas are not always bad.

bred whippets for 25 years so got good at stopping the liars who will tell you anything to get them.

I agree with Becci not all birthday gifts are bad owners but id never sell one as a child's birthday gift as they are normally a short lived fad.

what got me was when she started sending me ads for cheap horsfields as if that was going to change my mind that just made my opinion of her drop even lower, bet she goes to Tesco showing the till operator a tin of Aldi beans expecting them to lower the price to match it.

That's awful, I do worry about these things and have stopped looking at available torts! If mine ever have hatchlings I don't think think I would ever be able to sell them...I'm too soft x

Maybe you did but what im on about are the people who want a pet of any sort and have no idea about a tortoises needs you can tell them a mile off when they say can i pick it up at the weekend and you ask if they have all the correct equipment and they have no idea and assume it can run free in the garden even in the winter, i have even had one woman say oh well maybe we will get a hamster instead then :-x:-x

Yes similar pets there! O.o
I'm with Bev, I don't think I could breed and sell the babies, I'd be worried I'd pick a bad owner, though I'm a pretty good judge of character and not often wrong, I'd still worry.
Sadly there are too many a**holes in this world. Unfortunately, they don't stop at buyers, I spoke to a few breeders that were too, you just know they're farming and the babies will be sick but they say the right things and if you don't know what you're doing, they sucker you in. Pet shops alike. :-(
I'm glad I came here first.
