3 Y O Ornate box turtles
Just curious, I have an idea I think. ;)
Turtle one http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/325d6894.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/145c6a6f.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/0f0ec471.jpg Turtle two http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/886c60cf.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/d13d9b99.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/edcc60ac.jpg Sorry the pics rubbish. They're from my phone and the turtles are grumpy and bitey. :) |
no 1, looks like a female
no 2, looks like juvenile male These are the type of poses, the Red foot Marg should take with his animals too as it helps in the ID. We all know, how variable North American Box turtles can be and there is a distinct tendency for hybrids in captivity here in Europe. that said, yours look to be pure bred T ornata. Splendid growth and condition evident as well!! look like progeny from David and Linda in Kent? |
Agree and a head shot esp the top and eyes also helps sexing these torts is v difficult! :D

Im guessing 2 females but Im no good at sexing lol I would love some turtles though one day when Ive saved some money for the set up.

I've been thinking female for the first and male for the second for a while now.
Paul, these are the two littleuns from Dave and Linda. They are from the same clutch so brother and sister but hopefully it gives me some breeding options with the others further down the line. |
The first is a female. :D How bid is the second one Dave? and can you take a picture of the back feet?
Danny |
I'd say the second one is no more than 9CM's SCL but I'll measure tomorrow. I'll try and get my camera up and running and get some clearer pictures. I take it your looking for "big toe" shots? :)
|
Yes thats what I'm looking for :D

Right! Scuse the dirty fingernails, I had to dig him up. Pic's are still from my phone as for some reason my camera wont work since I dropped it in a tub of map turtles.
These are all turtle two, I'd never really looked at the feet, I think they could be a clincher. The SCL is exactly 9CMs. http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/8fffcb1e.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/8f7c8a4e.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/191cfee7.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/f7b4ec49.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/ecc43c49.jpg http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...2/81fa7ed6.jpg |

However, the pic's still suggest to me that this is a juvenile male T ornata |
