Egg colour when candled
My eggs are on day 6 and I tried to candle them. Some of them are dirty so it was difficult to tell with those ones. Sorry I haven’t taken any pics as I had to use the torch on my phone. Most of them have a black spot when candled, one much bigger than the others.
3 of them are a clear/light yellow colour when candled, does this mean the yolk has settled? These ones also have more obvious dark spots. The others give off an orange glow. I would be interested to know what others think about the colour? |
If they are only six days old you won't see anything in them yet even if they are fertile and they will only just be chalking over if fertile. Still early days yet.:)

I agree with Gordon far too early to tell if fertile or not.
When eggs are first laid they have a pinkish tinge to them. They then turn chalky white if fertile. They need to be at least three weeks to be able to see veins in them. Some take a little longer, as it also depends on the temps used in the incubator. I used to use 32.5 to get more female hatchlings. And within a month you could tell if fertile or not. Although I used to incubate all until the end. As there is always one egg that fools you:0) If you incubate at lower temps, then it will be longer before you can tell if fertile or not:0) |
Thank you! The reading on my thermometer is a touch under 32 degrees. The humidity is around 80%, I can’t seem to get this any lower no matter how much water is in the bottom

The temperature and humidity are fine what do you have the eggs on.

Hatchrite, it was all I could get at short notice

Nothing I have heard of I use vermiculite or perlite and use it dry.
If you use a damp medium and have it to wet then eggs can crack |
Thanks I think it is a form of perlite and it’s dry so fingers crossed
