Thermometer recommenations?
Hi all :)
What thermometers do people rate for checking hibernation temps? I've got a cheapy digital one I used for checking the basking temps but I don't think it's great... |
I have a heat gun with an inferred light on it

Like Gordon, I have an infrared thermometer. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/infrared-t...argeting-n92fx
I still have the digital probes in all the tort enclosures but the gun is quick, accurate and you can read the substrate surface temp and the temp of the torts. My torts often move their probes or lie on them! |
Thanks :) Those infra red ones look good...much easier than having the probe and wires in the enclosure.
Thanks for the link to the other thread :) I like the idea of having different thermometers in your incubator to test them, I guess if you've got a few different ones any really off readings will stand out. |
I have an infra red one, I don't know if that would be any good for checking hibernation temperatures though. It might depend on where you are doing the hibernation. If it's in a large soil filled box outdoors for instance, you might need to check the temps a foot down into the soil or whatever, I don't really know. I've heard folk say they have a probe in beside the tort also
