Making a Humid Hide
Hello,
In case of use for anyone else, at the weekend we made a humid hide for our 2 year old tortoise's indoor enclosure. Have put some pictures below http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...pictureid=4434 Plastic box, approximately 25cm x 20cm x 10cm (depth). Used a Stanley knife to cut tortoise-sized hole (entrance) about 4-5cm from bottom of box http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...pictureid=4435 Box with entrance hole http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...pictureid=4437 Half an 8.8L block of 'Plantation Soil: Tropical Terrarium Substrate' http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...pictureid=4438 Half an 8.8L block of 'Plantation Soil: Tropical Terrarium Substrate' in a bucket - added warm water as per instructions on packet (then a bit more) http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...pictureid=4439 'Plantation Soil: Tropical Terrarium Substrate' after 15 minutes of soaking http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...pictureid=4440 Added most of the soaked substrate to box (kept a little back for covering box) and compacted it so it was level with the bottom of the entrance hole http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...pictureid=4441 Added soaked substrate to box and compacted so it is level with the bottom of the entrance hole http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...pictureid=4442 Added box to enclosure then put plastic lid on top of box and remaining substrate on top of plastic lid. http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...pictureid=4443 Add one small tortoise http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/for...pictureid=4444 Reinstalled heating & UV lights above in time for bed |
Nice job, good idea
