Growing weeds indoors in winter

I'm going to try and grow some weeds from seed for my hatchlings indoors as there are slim pickings in the garden of weeds that they like to eat at the moment.

Has anyone had success and what did you use? Any extra lighting?

I never had much success, well none really. Wild rocket is something that grows well at the moment, it's a 'feed in moderation' plant. It's growing well in my garden just now

Weeds grow far better outside, even this time of the year. But they do need to be sown in a sheltered place, with sun when its around.
You can seed up a seed tray, water then cover with a sheet of plastic to help germination. If you can do three trays, one sown, one growing and one ready to eat, it helps:0)
I used to sow seeds this time of the year in my garden, ready to grow for the Spring. I dont have to now as they self seed themselves now:0)

I think they have to have a cold snap to kick start them so generally central heating, lack of photosynthesis sunlight and watering v dry out heating is against you I think but good luck

Seems a lot of money to grow dandelions in but might be worth it!

I doubt it very much:0)

There is a new generation of LED indoors growlights which don't produce much heat but provide suitable spectrum of light. There would a risk of drying out but I think this could work well if an eye was kept on it.

But this would be an expensive way to produce some weeds! Ribwort plantain and some other weeds can be found in limited amounts most of the year so if you've only got a small tortoise the amount you have to find is really small.

I do like the idea of growing some plants under very controlled conditions and using a calcium rich but low nutrient growing medium. But I think that's for after I've stopped working.
