Wisteria
 

checked out tortoise table and various sites and can not find out whether wisteria is ok. Loads of flowers had fallen from one of mine onto the grass the other week and banjo duo was tucking in like a mad underfed thing despite all the tasty weeds. I have sectioned it off as can not pick them all up in one go but are they ok or in moderation ? I am hoping so. He seems fine after a week but checking if Wisteria flowers (these are mauve - domino I think),

The flowers are mildly poisonous but in moderation should be ok.
The thing you need to make sure they don't get are the seed pods.:(

that's good thanks. I have never seen seed pods on wisteria, or dropped, but they must be there , I will check when goes to seed. The wind has been in my favour and they have either perished or blown out - not had it before where the flowers have dropped so early but we've had some strange weather. All parts are toxic. The seed pods look a bit like runner beans when they've not formed properly, although slightly different colour!

Really strange I did enter the plant name into tortoise table lots of times on a search and it didn't come up and even added the latin name - I must have spelt it wrong apologies to both of you ! Typical I have lots of aquilegia and wisteria everywhere in that area of the garden, nice weeds and Tort never usually goes there and then a sodden mess of flowers after a rain storm and he is over there like a rocket. Think I will keep it sectioned off, CB

I have lots of Aquilegia too, Clare. It's even popped up in the weed patch before and been moved. Actually, I get all sorts of toxic plants in there - especially the foxglove this summer!
Shame about the wisteria as it's soooo pretty. I've just bought Clematis, Jasmine, Honeysuckle and a creeper Vine for the pergola (in a completely separate area of garden to the torts). I really wanted Wisteria but read it can take years to flower, so I went with the easy options. How long have you had yours?

Yes, I’m a bit impatient! I’m sure it’s worth the wait though.

At our previous house we had a wisteria that took 7 years before it flowered. It was the type that doesn't grow too fast Wisteria Floribunda which is the Japanese one. The Chinese one Wisteria Sinensis is an extra fast grower. Our one was kept as a small tree and we cut it back every year before it was eventually killed by a 100mph wind

Gosh you have to put up with some bad weather!

Hope you are getting some of this good weather we are experiencing in the south?

I now need some rain for the veg patch!
