Peckadilly Circus Hatching Thread 5/6 Fertile

Hi all,

I received 6 Green Silkie X Cream Legbar Bantam eggs from eBay on Friday!

I let them settle for the normal 12 - 24 hours and put them in the Hova-Bator incubator yesterday (13/03/2010) on 37.5oc humidity 45 - 50%

They are due to hatch day 18 - 20 (Today is day 1! Large Fowl breeds normally take 21 days to hatch)

I have tried to candle them looking for hair line cracks but the shells are so dark i couldn't see through them:x so will have to save up for a high intensity candler!

I'm not sure what day I'm going to stop turning them, Maybe day 17/18 (30/03/2010 - 31/03/2010)

I'm hoping to candle them on day 10 (23/03/2010) so will let everyone know if we have any Fertile/Infertile/Died early

Here's a picture of the eggs, the eggs look blue but they are green

You can click on the pictures to make them bigger:-)

and a picture of the brooder! In there is an Electric hen,Non slip flooring (To help stop splay legs) water dispenser and a small food dish (was put in after pictures were taken!) Oh and sorry about all the mess behind it:-x

If you don't mind me asking, whats an Electric Hen?

Herpard 14-03-2010 12:54 PM

It's the black thing in the brooder

It's more natural than a bulb, doesn't give off any light and it doesn't take up much electric which is a good thing when it needs to be kept on 24/7 for 6 - 8 weeks.

If non of the eggs hatch or once any chicks are a little older I'll be using it for my Leopard Tortoise if it gets too cold at night

EquestrianBabe 14-03-2010 12:56 PM

Oh, I thought it was a stuffed hen powered by electric or something, lol :D

Herpard 14-03-2010 12:58 PM

hehe That's what came to my mind the first time i heard about one

Good luck with your eggs! I used to enjoy doing it, always used our broody hen though

Herpard 14-03-2010 05:40 PM

Thanks, I'd love to use a Broody hen but i Only have Hybrids and they are prone to getting up halfway through a Hatch <_<

TortMad 14-03-2010 07:17 PM

good luck with them. Silkiex cream legbars I bet would be a great mix

TortBabe 14-03-2010 08:07 PM
