Not tesco but some pics i found from my China Visit.

I was planning to take some of the turtles in the supermarkets but was getting dodgy looks, when oooing and ahhing at the poor things.

I visited an old town which was changing into a tourist attraction but this was found everywhere.

There were 2 being kept as pets on the cash desk at a video store also.

Some where so tiny.

So fancy a turtle with your sun umbrella?

Poor little things. There's Red Eared Sliders in there. They're not asiatic. Are they farmed in the Far East? If not I wonder who's supplying them?

Red eared Terrapins (Trachemys scripta elegana) are being farmed in China on a massive scale too.
In the first pic, I think that some of the babies are Golden Thread Turtles (Ocadia sinensis)

Thanks, I remember now.. I just went and looked at the second or third letter I got from Tesco and they said that THEY had stopped the stocking of RES in their China stores but where theres a market eh...

I only saw these type being sold as 'pets' most of the 'food trade' ones where black with wierd noses, sorry i'm not very good with turtles.

If you want some pictures of them in markets and tesco please let me know as my parents in law are living there if they dont get in trouble im sure they wont mind!

We found the supermarkets difficult as my father in law is a carp fisherman and these are eaten also.

I was sure i had taken pictures of the 'market' turtles but can't find any think they are just imprinted in my mind. :(

Yes thats the type :(

These are indeed the Chinese Soft Shell Turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis). They are being farmed on a very large scale in the country. However, the welfare, and sustainability of this practice is highly questionable.
Were they on Ice, or in Chill cabinets?
Thanks & Happy Chinese New Year- Year of the OX

When I went to china town NY they had some turtles for sale and they had a big bin full of frogs it makes me mad that they abuse these animals and it even pisses me off more that they are doing it in my country and getting away with
