Horsefield help
 

My 7 year old horsfield Yoda has recently become very very lethargic .... Hes hardly eaten and since last sun not eaten much at all or move even

He lives in the shed on a large tort table with megaray bulb on soil with hot end and cold end - shed seems to get an overall temp of 15-18 degrees with hotter under his bulb all all he seems to do is dig himself down into the cold end and stay there ....

He does have a large outdoor weed area but due to weather he hasnt been outside in it.

Is he trying to hibernate? If he is im a bit worried as I obviously havent monitored his food intake and everything ... should I bring him indoors to over winter?

He did hiss when I picked him up to check him but he doesnt open his eyes

I would say that the ambient temps of the shed are now too low and they are triggering the hibernating response. You need ot decide whether you are going to hibernate him or not. I would say that if not it's definately time to bring him indoors to a warm bright room

yeah after reading a couple other threads on similar issues I think so too! Gonna go get his spare enclosure and bring it in now and warm him up after a nice bath - see how he goes next couple days.

Hi, I am no expert but seems to me he is suffering from the onset of the cold wether, I have my girls in the living room so the temp can be controlled especialy during the night when the tempreture drops. I do not wish to hibernate so I bath them daily to stimulate them & to drink or absorb fluid. I keep them warm in thier table with a UVB lamp to reproduce the sunlight intake (23-25dgrs) & a red heat bulb (32-35dgs)so they can bask to thier hearts content. I would certainly bring him indoors so his enviroment is warmer during the night at least.
As I said I am no expert so good luck i hope it works out for you and especially your little man (torty).

Temp inside enclosure set up using an old viv .... with the top off and glass covered!!!!! Had a bath and eaten .... gonna monitor temps now and adjust the light/heat accordingly

I am realy pleased he's picking up. Sounds as though hes going to be fine. Good luck & keep asking questions, someone on here will always help.
