Drying weeds

Ive got loads of weeds in my garden but want to dry some before cutting my grass. Any tips or advice?

I dried lots by putting in a very low temperature oven.

They didn't touch them!

In all fairness I had plenty of weeds coming up when I needed them, even though they were very small.

I have been thinking about trying again this year as I have so much plantain and a good size and hadn't dried this before.

The other idea I have is to grown some weeds in trays before they wake up so they have variety early on. Shelled warrior shop sells them. I know some people have reported the difficulty of growing them, but I had no problem. I can grow weeds better than flowers! Just keep in mind that just one seed tray can go in one sitting.

I did buy some dried weeds from the pet shop, after having complained on here how expensive they were. As was pointed out you have to think of the work involved and guarantee safety etc. So perhaps not so expensive. They didn't eat those either.

For the same price you can buy some lambs lettuce (considered a weed) which mine love.

Yes do let us know and how they are received.

I will be interested to know which weeds you dried.

Dandelion flowers were a bit disastrous I found, all shrivelled up.

I dried a pile of stuff last summer. Big sow thistles which I had tons of, and blue sow thistle. I spread the leaves out on newspaper and let them air-dry.

My torts will eat it but of course they would prefer some nice juicy leaf straight out of the garden. The dried stuff can be re-hydrated to make it more palatable.

I bought 'Woodlands' Clover & Plantain leaf mix from Pets at Home once but my torts didn't eat it. It's meant for either rabbits or guinea pigs I think. £3 odds a bag

my guinea pigs don't like that either Alan so not sure who eats it ! they love meadow hay (piggies).

Even if I leave the weeds out on the ground and they dry I end up scooping them away cause they wont touch them. Let us know how it all goes, CB
