trex advice needed please with redfoots
 

hi

i am running the tort table for next 48 hours, a trial run before the trorts take up residence to check on temperature gradients and humidity levels

trex light 14 inches above substrate

thinking of timing 9am until 11pmm what do u think

also when the trex is off will temperatures be ok for the torts in summer and winter

have got 2 quality min max thermometers and a humidity thing

all advice very welcome

all that sounds great, If you have central heating then your torts will be fine in the winter nights unless they are babies, then they may require a little extra heat, but should be fine realy if kept dry and outa drafts

During the winter I found that the T-Rex didnt provide enough heat, so I also put a 40Watt spot bulb in for extra heat at the basking end. I think leaving the lamp it on until 11pm is a little late. Its best to replicate natural light, something like 7am til 9pm. I got mine on a timer, they are only about £3 from Argos. But when they are outside i dont bother putting the lights on I let the sun heat and light them!!!

thats good advice jusy what i wanted ... u see my nature clock is up the swanny :lol: :lol: do not go to bed till about 3pm but then i donot need to get up till 2pm :lol: :lol: lucky hey?

had to move the trex higher because the temps were over 37c

have now had a constant 33c but the trex is now 18 inchs above th substrate will this mean torts r not gtting enough uv

Sarah and I run the lights a little differently. We tend to aim for switching them on an hour after sun up, and an hour before sunset, that way they get the natural decrease in temps as well. :)

so how long r your lights on and what do u feel about a 100wat trex flood being 19 inches above substrae any closer and temps r to high

Thanks Lowe thats what I was trying to say put the lamp on earlier and off earlier to replicate the wild with light and heat. 14 hours is the norm
