I need some help

I recently rescued a terrapin ,the owner was not looking after it .It was kept in dirty water and had no heat and as a result it has shell rot .I am having that taken care of but i have also noticed some other problems.

It is always sinking to the bottom of the tank and closing its eyes ,its not very active and also keeps opening its mouth ,is this normal behavior or sighs of an illness?

I do not know much about terrapins but i am trying to learn fast so that i can improve its life .I have other reptiles so i know how much care exotic pets need .The terrapin now has a basking spot and light and constant clean water .If any one has any other useful information i would be great full.

Also how do you tell if a terrapin is male or female ? i think he/she deserves a name:) .

Is the terrapin eating? What are your water and basking temperatures? Does it come out to bask? You can post pictures of the plastron (bottom shell), head and front legs and we can give a go at sexing and telling species.
