mark I did post on here recently about the complete idiots guide which was a Kis range - as in - keep it simple - and I loved it but no one posted replying whether they'd read it and you cant seem to get it in this country. it is on amazon for loads of money!!? weirdly to steer away
however.......Liz palika, same author does one called turtles and tortoise for dummies about a £10 I think, - not read it but it was on amazon and if it is like her Idiots guide to tortoise and turtles it will be absolutely brilliant - for a 11 year old too - she did put lots of tips and photos and cartoons in the other, thought it excellent fun CB

Do you know what I would do Mark.....is introduce him to shelled warriors and let him post his questions. I think he would have far more fun with the site than a book could give him, and his multiple questions would be answered correctly x x x. Hugs x x x

will defo do that as well Stellanne. He's a real bookworm and always goes to bed with a book of some description .... last night it was the Secret Seven! x

You could have a look at Reptiles are Cool - Understanding my Tortoise by Siuna A Reid as this is written for children. Most of the information is OK. Mary

Considering he will be looking after his Hermanns for the next 50 years or so I will recommend a more specialised tortoise book.
Naturalistic Keeping and Breeding of Hermanns Tortoises by Wolfgang Wegehaupt ISBN 978-3-9809774-4-4-9
It can be bought from the author who may even sign it for you.
Quite an expensive purchase but ideal for a new keeper. I keep mine at hand and I am always dipping in and out of it.
Well worth buying in my view.
Make sure you order an English copy.
The book was recommended to me when I bought my Hermanni Hermanni.

mark , you sure you read the right review for Turtles and Tortoises for dummies ? Most have raved about it ...and though 2001 publication she has run a rescue for years. her idiots guide was spot on...only thing is she does cover a multitude of tortoises and turtles so a £4.99 one Called The Tortoise may be just as good. Wolfgang's is the best Hermanns book around, though I thought it quite a purist view and in the region of £35 I would check out the library for that first ...wrap it up..(im joking about that part! , bit festive fun! )
