Tortoise squeeking at night
 

Hello,
One of our tortoises has started squeeking after they all go to sleep at night. He/she is about three years old and a Greek spur thigh. Weve kept other older spur thighs for a few years now and have never heard any of the others doing it. Some of the others do make mating noises during the day but this is alone, at night and seemingly when asleep. Has anyone seen anything similar, is it something to worry about? Her eyes, tail and nose look fine and she's been up from hibernation for a good while now.

Are you sure they are the same species?
As there is no such thing as a Greek Spur-thigh. The group commonly known as "Spur Thigh" has at least six different sub species, which is why I for one try not to use Spur Thigh as it means not a lot sorry:0)
If you mix a graeca with and ibera (sp) then the graeca can get squeeky and have a runny nose.
I would keep the squeeky one seperate for a while, until you know what you are dealing with. It might be something simple or it could be spreadable.
A visit to a vet would be in order if it does not get better to be sure.

Thank you for your help! I've double checked their cites certificates which say that they're all graeca but will take and post some photos when they're all up and bathed (if I can work out how to!!)

All the sub species of graeca come under the same for DEFRA, although they are all different and come from different parts of the world. This all helps to the confusion:0(

On your article 10 it will say common name spurthigh tortoise then it will say testudo greaca as that's all Defra recognise. There are lots of different sub species to this group and some are a lot more difficult to keep than others.
A tunisian spurthigh is a testudo greaca on its article 10 but a not as easy to care for as an ibera which is also a testudo greaca on its a 10 hope which does confuse a lot of people as some of them don't hibernate.

The pictures are HUGE, so hard to see. But from the colouring I would say this is an ibera.
And dont in my experience get respiratory infections easily.
Having kept them for over 36yrs.

Sorry, I'm not quite sure how they ended up that size - it took me quite a long time to work out how to upload them at all! Do you think that both tortoises are the same then? Any ideas where he squeaking might be coming from then? RNS worries me a bit!

I would say it's an ibera.
