Egg development

Hi my eggs have now been in the incubator for 42 days and one seems clear the other is black at the bottom a sort of air bubble at the top, could this be fertile?

Hi it is very difficult to tell if what you are describing is a fertile egg or not . I would suspect the clear one at 42 days may be infertile.. Don't discard until you are certain though. As for the second one this is either fertile and developing or has stopped. I would give them both a chance. There used to be a topic on here with egg development pictures .

Thanks for your replies!i candled them again last night and the one that looks fertile definitely has something moving in their so fingers crossed.how do I upload pictures on this site? I'm so excited I've incubated eggs in the past with no luck but I'm hopeful this time.

Hi you will need to upload your pictures to a free hosting site like Photobucket then copy and post them into your post. Should you have any problems once they are loaded on Photobucket just say and I will go through it with you.

Thanks terry,it's day 50 now and the egg is starting to go a grey colour is this normal? And how much longer do you think?

terrypin 16-11-2016 07:34 AM

If the egg has gone grey this is not right. If you mean when you shine a torch on it it is completely dark then it is about to hatch. Check the egg by sniffing it if it has gone bad you should be able to tell. The egg shell should remain white.

The eggs can look 'greyish' in places when they are ready to hatch. I think it's where they are pecking the inside of the shell. X
