Female behavioir
I've had this female since last year. she never laid when 3 of the others did. She is healthy. I noticed she has been trying to mount the other girls and in the case of the video the male. Would you put this down to thinking of nesting or would you just say a dominance thing? I know the male has mated with her many times. Just she didn't show signs at all last year even when separating her from group. Hope the video helpshttps://youtu.be/Uv_V-1nHzM0

nice educational video. she has a big mouth !! could be both I suppose , gravid behaviour produces dominance and aggression but someone more experienced will know.

It could be either: gravid or domination. Im sure she has a nesting site?

ye there's a massive mound of coco coir in middle of enclosure it's pretty deep all round. It would be good for her to lay. Put me at ease

You have probably missed her nesting site, as no two tortoises like the same. I have two females that will do trial nests in hard ground, and then lay in the GH. And two that will try and dig in concrete, then lay in the lawn:0) females mounting males is a sure sign of being bra id, or hormone levels are high.

Thank you for your replies. I've been keeping an eye out by weighing her daily. she has has been digging about outside today. Im growing a patch of grass within my enclosure just for choice.

ok an update she was Gracie she found a spot outside and buried 3 eggs. They are very small.. surely they don't be viable?

All eggs are worth incubating, if not just to find out if they are fertile or not:0)

apologies for my grammar. Looking at this post I feel I must be loosing it.
I've put them in the incubator. |
If they are fertile size makes no difference just means you get tiny babies that will need looking after the same way as a normal baby.
I have had thb babies around the 6g mark.:) |
