thanks for the reply, i thought it was a hermanns, i am not woth the tortoise now but by the pics it looks like spurs on the legs, any idea abput h.h or h.b by the underside of the shell,

it is my girlfriends cousins, it was given her by the rspca about 6 years ago, she thinks it is about 10, he was about 9 inches long, i was only with it for 2 mins

From what I could see form the pics it looks like it has thigh spurs and no tail spurs so my first thought would be spur thighed, but I cant see very well with the pics.

Yeah thats another good point. After studying the tail pictures for longer I'm also thinking it does have a tail spur. Sorry for disagreeing paul

thanks darren. stupid question but can you guess an age at 9/10 inches long, pretty smooth shell, they think its about 10-12 but i thought possibly older.

Female hermanni boetgerri, you can tell its older- as when they get old the black on the shell draws more towards the edges of the scutes- and has less black on it.
Shes lovely!!!

tell me about it, i fell in love with her.
She gets to live in the garden when weather is nice so in the summer she has a good life but when the weather is bad (more often than not here) she lives indoors with no uv source/ no heat source/ iceberg lettuce and rare baths.
