Hi,
Hello to everyone. This is my 1st post after doing extensive reading on the forums. It seems the online store I bought my tortoise from gave me seriously wrong info. I was told I didnt needs lights, heat or anything! Something didnt quite sound right. I've kept an iguana many years ago so knew that reptiles did need suplimnets/heat light etc. Anyway after reading a few forums I made Killer a table, added a basking lamp, UV tube and night light.

He's a Med spur thigh. However I dont know how old he is and can only hazard a guess of what species it is. The pics on the forums for identifying are all taken of adults. Can anyone tell me from the pics : how old(ish), what sex and species please? I know it's hard to sex a small tortoise so dont worry too much about that. Please look at the stats below and shout if you dont think something is right:

Plastron: 6cm
Weight: Approx 50g
Basking temp: 90 - 100
Cool area: 60 -70
Humidity I'm not measuring as he is in an open top table.

Yes an ibera.
My guess is male, but really to small to tell yet.
Hard to guess what age, as different keepers feed differently, so they can grow to varying
sizes at any age.

Hi Phil,

I would say Ibera, as for the age, did you not get an article 10 stating the hatching date of the tortoise?

As you mentioned the incorrect husbandry given at point of sale, I am leaning towards this information being incorrect anyway. As there is a liklihood that this tortoise was imported into the UK which means there is no guarentee the inforamtion is correct at all.

From stats of my own ibera tortoises I think your tortoise is an early 2006 hatchling.

I hope this helps.

Ade
