This may sound like a daft question
but while willow is inside does he still need his basking light on
while were having this hot weather?
the room temperature is getting to 30
hes out most of the time now but if i have to go out i bring him in
and wondered should i still put the basking light on? it gets up to 40
when i leave it on in this weather and i didnt want to burn him
thanks

I turn mine off when they are outside.
40C is a bit hot, have you considered raising the bulb, or if it is a standard spot rather than a combined then maybe add a thermostat...

hi thanks
i turn it off when hes outside but if i go out i bring him in
i cant raise it any higher than it is .
would a normal house hold bulb be okay to use just to raise the temp a bit?
or would he be okay with no basking light on for a while?
im not out for long as i work from home, maybe an hour or 2
thanks

i would think an ordinary light bulb to make it bright will be ok for a few hours while your out x

If I'm out I don't have the basking lamps on in this weather. The ambient temperature is warm enough and I'd rather know they're not overheating. As soon as I'm home, they're put back outside straightaway.

I've lowered the wattage of my bulbs because its so hot at the moment mine seem to be happier with it. They are outside as much as I can as well.

Thanks to all , i feel much better now knowing it wont do him any harm.

I cant believe it ,Today has been overcast here but i had willow outside today and he has been exploring and eating and climbing and basically just loving it.
Usually he just sits in his little hut and doesnt do much so i was realy suprised
he obviously prefers it overcast than sunny

They are funny creatures, mine haven't been up to too much in this heat either outside or in... it was nice to have a cooler day yesterday!

I have thought this myself however I have just moved mine up slightly so it is not as hot. The light going on is what makes Petey wake up so if I have it off over this good weather h would just sleep right through and miss summer ha ha. He does dig a hole to sleep in which I always thought was as he was cold but now think it is as he is too hot. Its a whole learning experience for me

Willow doesnt get up when i put his lights on but he sits in his hut
just looking out at me and with this hot weather he hasnt been coming out
until 10.30am at which time its getting seriously hot already outside.
So when i get him outside its Hot and he just hides in his hidey hole
wish hed get up at 6am when i do so i can get him outside early and he can
have a nosey about before it gets scorching..
Im realy contemplating leaving him outside during this hot spell overnight
but im just too scared something will happen to him

If you have the light on a timer switch...if you're not about, you can have it go off during peak hot hours. Have it off for a few hours then back on when its a bit cooler...if you can't get them outside that is. xx:)
