hi guys ,today i witnessed my 3 year old herman so called daisy mounting dolly .when i gently removed daisy i noticed a little something that only the males should have i think. Can anybody send me some pics so i can see for sure .There has been no sign of aggression.but just maybe daisy isnt all she seems.Any suggestions for a new name would be appreciated.thanks.karen h.

I normally totally blow off these kinds of posts until I saw this response and I want to thank Nina and Cruzer. Nina, I do have the same question. That second link is fantastic. Only tortoise people can discuss this topic in this manner.

without being to rude does anyone know why it has to be so big I mean its long enough to come out the other end, in comparison to other animals/reptiles/birds is it a record.

I'm sure the male tort would say, "Don't knock it til you've tried it!"
Seriously, I suppose it's because God (or whatever) didn't make them into very flexible little animals, what with having a hard shell on the top and the bottom, and if you think about it, the male has to balance very precariously on top of and at the back of the female (and that little bit of concavity that many males have in their plastron really isn't enough to compensate for the rounded top of the female's shell), so they need a long member to get to the right spot. Or, God (and I use that term loosely) was just feeling particularly generous on the day
