So, different types of torts. Give the full name(including subspecies if there are ones) by PM to me. I don't really mind spelling or whether it's latin or common name. Shall we say closing date 2nd March at 5pm.

I'd be suprised if anyone gets all of them-unless Danny enters of course. I'm giving full mark for completely correct but there are half marks available(e.g species but not subspecies)

Can you post the images in the thread Ben, in the order you want them answered? :)

Edit.. I figured out the order

I think the competition had better be stopped as we are all going to get full marks. Those of us who like large pictures/photos in particular - I won't say why until Flintus is back on here, but I guess some of you will know what I mean fairly quickly!

Large pictures? I struggled to even find the small ones.

Ah, just realised what you mean. If you click on the image it comes up with the tortoise name I saved it under on my laptop.

Because it takes long enough to even upload stuff to photobucket, can everyone not click on the full size image please.

Have you fixed the pictures now 'cos I just clicked on the pictures and I didn't see the name?

Jess222

Thanks for doing the quiz by the way - great idea! I will enter (though I might not get many) and I promise not to go full size :)

No, I'll see what I can do though. Ross had a very good attempt at it.

I could have got 100% had I waited

I've got rid of the photobucket link now. Copied IMG codes

You still got 80%, Ross to beat.

Well i did miserably :(

You didn't do too bad. Dan is now in the lead(I was hoping you weren't going to enter lol) with 8 and a half(disappointing Dan:wink:), only half ahead of Ross-I would've had a guess at some of the subspecies if I was you.

I'm out, the only thing I know is that they are all tortoises, I think.

I hope this quiz is still open, I have been mega busy (and frustrated) trying to sort out the cover for my new book but I will definitely have a go in the next 24 hours :)

Don't forget the winner does the next one and it doesn't have to be tort related:smile:

whoever does the next quiz its better not to tell individuals their results but to wait untill the quiz has ended then repost the questions with their answers plus the order of entries at the bottom of the page ie winner and so on down with their score next to their name. I think Stells is then going to do the leader board so I assume you send her a copy of the results. Waiting for the result is part of the fun of taking part.

ok, sorry about that. I was just trying to get the quiz thing started again so in someways I may've messed it up a bit. I'll PM Stells the full results probably tonight.

are the answers and placings posted anywhere yet?

FLINTUS
02-03-2013, 06:57 PM
I'll post here:
These are the answers and results-I was a little(perhaps too) generous with a few extra marks for close guesses.
Testudo Graeca Buxtoni
Geochelone Chilensis
Indestudo Forstenni
Pyxis planicauda
Indestudo Elongata
Testudo Graeca Ibera
Psammobates tentorius veroxii
Geochelone Elegans
Testudo Horsfieldii rustamovi
kinixys zombensis zombensis(although would’ve given the mark for kinixys belliana zombenis as it only recently changed)
If anyone debates my taxonomy then just ask me and I'll try and re-do the points. Here are the scores(hopefully Stells wil read this):
1.EgyptianDan 8 1/2
2.TillyTortoise 8
3.Easter Bunny 7 1/2
4.WriterNick 3 1/2
4.Pussygalore 3 1/2
6.Jess222 2
Sorry about a few things going wrong with this, the much more experienced Danny I presume will be doing the next quiz.

Even Danny got two subspecies wrong and didn't put the subspecies for horsfield.

Yup going to have to call into question the Tent tortoise :D I know I didn't get it right but going back to look at it and looking at it now its definately not a Psammobates tentorius trimeni but a Psammobates tentorius verroxii. Both P. t. tentorius tentorius and P. t. trimeni have black marks on their bridges (between carapace and plastron while P. t. verroxii has a clean bridge. In the picture that tortoise has a very clean bridge so can only be P. t. verroxii.

OK, it was done by using the highly reliable google images search for trimeni but evidently it came up wrong(by the way I didn't get it from that site), it doesn't make any difference to the scores but I will correct the answer now.
