Hi I have obtained a new tortoise from a friend and her and I were completely baffled as to what species she/he is. The tortoise weighs 510 grams and is 143mm long. On either side of her legs she/he has two scales wich are slightly larger than the rest and on his/her head he has a patch of colour that is slightly lighter than the rest of his body. Please help!

Looks like a female ibera, although not a good shot of the tail.

Now that I know where you are Judy :D and this has been nagging at me  You don't have an ibera greek. Your greek does look like the greeks from the southern coast of the Caspian Sea in Iran. They have tentatively been call Testudo graeca buxtoni. There aren't many pictures of them out there so I had to search  but I do have a couple pictures :D
Your second tortoise isn't ibera either :D From your one picture she looks like T. g. terrestris, but if you could post some carapace and plastron shots we could tell for sure.

Hi Judy,
Your second tortoise is a T. graeca terrestris, most likely from Jordan. :D
